Welcome Message:
My name is Jay Brummett, and I am the Republican candidate for the Utah House of Representatives representing Legislative District 35. I have been a resident of my District for 20 years, previously serving the community in a number of leadership roles including: President of Moss PTA, Chairman of the Millcreek Community Council, Salt Lake County Board of Adjustment, and the East County Recreation Advisory Board. As your representative, I will continue to stand for the mainstream American values found in the communities which make up District 35.
I have a proven record as a successful business leader, and most recently as the chief technology officer for a local city, where I inherited an ineffective and bureaucratic organization nearly $2 million in the red. In under 18 months: I doubled the level of service delivery, reduced the budget by over 17%, eliminated the financial problems, and my organization was recognized the National League of Cities who named us the nation’s #1 Digital City.
Many of our neighbors have become cynical about our government and the political process. Utah has huge problems providing basic citizen services such as education, public safety, or quality roads and highways; these problems can not be solved with political rhetoric or the simple 30-second “sound bite” solutions offered by too many politicians. Simply put: if we could solve all our problems with “sound bites”, we would have. Our community needs effective representation in the State Legislature. A person committed to focusing on the issues which affect each of us like: Crime and Public Safety, Jobs and Economic Development, and Education; someone able to tackle our tough complex problems, with equally tough and sometimes complex solutions. I am that person.
I was urged to seek this office by a broad number of current and former residents within our district; I have thought the opportunity through carefully seeking input from some of the leading members of our community both Republicans and Democrats. The universal and enthusiastic support has been both humbling and exciting. I am fully committed to running and winning this seat as a means of further serving our community. If I am to win this election, and if I am to represent you well I need your help and advice. Over the next weeks and months, I will be working hard to personally contact you to discuss the issues facing our community, my campaign and how I can best represent you in the Utah House. Should you want to talk to me immediately please don’t hesitate to telephone me (801.573.5776) or drop me an email: Brummett@xmission.com.
