Jessica's Law - protecting our children | Protecting Our Elderly | Visit the Utah Sex Offenders Registry

Jay Brummett, Position on Crime & Justice:

Community support for law enforcement reinforces public safety and is the foundation to prevent crime. Everyone can do something to help make our families and our communities safer. Broad-based grassroots community support for the police bolsters public safety. Likewise law enforcement must also be committed to actively seeking the support of community members and organizations. As your state representative, here are some of the things I can do to support law enforcement and safer communities:

Reduce Crime on Rental Properties:
Expand the ability of cities to utilize innovative programs like Ogden’s Good Landlord Program, which has received national attention due to its success: Calls for service down by 8% and crime down, on participating properties, over 11%!

Help Victims of Identity Theft
Identity theft is now the top-reported theft crime in the United States. It occurs when someone steals your personal information to commit fraud or other crimes. Victims spend an enormous amount of time cleaning up the mess thieves have made of their good name and credit record. In Utah, those affected by identity theft have had few ways to establish their innocence and reassert control over their information.
Create an Identity Theft Passport program. The Identity Theft Passport is a card that you can carry and present to law enforcement, financial institutions, or other individuals establishing that they have been the victimized. Such programs have been successfully help identity theft victims in over 18 states.

Put needed information into the hands of First Responders and the Public:
Improve the timeliness and accuracy of data currently being shared with local law enforcement and the public.

Stop Criminal "Catch & Release" along the Wasatch Front
Help Utah’s Sheriffs with jail over crowding due to chronic under funding of “conditions of probation inmates”, which is currently resulting in dangerous criminals being released in District 35.

Make it easier for State and Local Agencies to Cooperate
Support multi-jurisdictional and task-force approaches to drug enforcement, crime analytics, crimes against children, and other areas of law enforcement cooperation which provide better enforcement and reduced costs.
