Frivolous lawsuits and inapproriate malpractice suits have ruined businesses and helped price healthcare outside the reach of many Utah families.
Don't get me wrong, we need affordable access to the court system for business and individuals!
BUT, we need to reform the system to protect innocent people and their property from litigious predators who seek to use the courts in an inappropriate and frivolous manner.
Simple reforms like a “loser pays” rule will quickly end irresponsible lawsuits. Moreover, such a rule would encourage “out of court” settlements and the use of effective lower-cost alternatives such as arbitration; all the while, still providing affordable access for all who really need the protection of the court system.
