Strong Communities
Helping those in need | Proper Role of Government | Protecting Our Children | Protecting Our Elderly
I will continue to stand for the mainstream American values of our neighborhoods and the community of which Dist 35 is as part. Strong inclusive communities will continue to be the basis of the high quality of life we enjoy living in Utah. I support safer and stronger communities:
Strong communities ground themselves in the traditional values of caring friends, relatives, and co-workers in the lives of people regardless of their social, economic, ethnic or religious background. Fundamentally, we are talking about protection and promotion of the family and community relationships that form the basis of our personal identities.
Strong Communities are where:
- People know that they are safe and the well being of our children is being looked after;
- Residents feel involved in the local community and believe they can influence decisions affecting their local area;
- People from different backgrounds can get on well together.
Some in our community believe that the Federal or State government is best able to make our neighborhoods strong. I do not agree! Federal and State social service agencies, no matter how well meaning, have a poor record of delivering successful community initiatives that truly enhance the safety and well-being of children and families. Meanwhile, our primary community institutions such as: Municipal governments, our churches and synagogues, community-based social service providers and charity organizations, civic clubs, parent organizations, primary health care providers, local schools, and businesses have an incredible record of lasting positive impacts on our communities.
As your representative, I will support: Greater empowerment of local government to solve local problems, limiting the role the role of state government to that of an advisor and enabler of localized solutions –AND- Better enablement of community based agencies and small groups of committed individuals to help those in need.
